Little Farmers
Their names are Yves, Phillippe or Marie and they are breeders in the south of France. Nestled in small hamlets, where they can have space and often in their parents' village, they stand up to the dominant market of agricultural excess. As small farmers, they manage with small fields, tiny herds, and meagre incomes to support traditional beef or sheep farming. When asked, most of them are clear: they do not advise their children to follow the same professional path. Too much work, too much risk, too little consideration, too little income, too little future.
Symbol of a model that seems to be disappearing, some still hope that the consumer will be able to change the system. But in the meantime, the pragmatic and ruthless daily life is putting new challenges on them every day: climate, predators or falling prices are going to make their lives harder. And yet they still cultivate hope.
